New Vivo X90 Smartphones: The Best Flagships on the Planet

Vivo presents the next generation of its most efficient smartphones. This time the premiere is special because the X90 Pro Plus model has not only a solid set of cameras but also the latest Snapdragon processor.

Vivo X90 Pro Plus - the first of the three powerhouses

The new Vivo flagship series has three representatives. Their appearance is similar - especially from the back. They share the same island design as the camera and a housing imitating leather. In each of the options, you can also see a metal strip running under the camera section. The color scheme depends on the version: in general, each can be in black or red, and the basic X90 will also be available in blue.

Other common features of smartphones are, for example, a 32 MPix front camera in the screen hole, a custom chip to support image processing, Zeiss anti-glare coating, Origin OS 3 operating system based on Android 13, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.3. Other things are more or less changed.

Vivo V90 Pro Plus is undoubtedly the leader in the rate. It is the only one that uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor - the most powerful unit currently offered by Qualcomm. In addition, we have an OLED screen with a diagonal of 6.78 inches a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The battery has a capacity of 4700 mAh and can charge with a power of 80 W (wireless 50 W).

The camera is also nothing to be ashamed of. A 1-inch IMX758 matrix with a resolution of 50 Mpix was used here, and we also have a 64-megapixel camera with a periscope lens (3.5x magnification) and an ultra-wide-angle lens (114 ∘ ) glued to the 48 Mpix matrix. The first two of these cameras offer optical image stabilization.

Prices and availability

There are different memory versions of new smartphones, which is why the price range is as follows:

  • From 3699 yuan (P29,681 or $518) for the Vivo X90 8GB/128 to 4999 yuan for the 12GB/512GB option,
  • From 4999 yuan  (P36,105 or $630) for the Vivo X90 Pro 8GB/256GB to 5999 yuan for the 12GB/512GB option,
  • From 6499 yuan (roughly P52,155 or $910) for the Vivo X90 Pro Plus 12GB/256GB to 6999 yuan for the 12GB/512GB option.

As of now, smartphones are not available outside of China.

In addition to the raw photo capabilities, the manufacturer took care of software that facilitates taking pictures of the night sky, tilt-shift mode, horizon correction options, useful for reducing frame distortion when photographing tall buildings, and an advanced portrait mode with the possibility of adding a flare effect.

Other useful little things are, for example, a water and dust-resistant housing in accordance with the IP68 standard or a fingerprint reader integrated with the screen with a large data collection field, provided by Qualcomm (3D Sonic Max).

Cheaper doesn't mean much worse

Vivo X90 and Vivo X 90 Pro may not be as fancy as the Plus version in every respect, but they also have their advantages. Both run on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and use a 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED display. Only the resolution of the panel is lower - it has 2800 x 1260 pixels. The optical fingerprint reader is mounted on the screen.

There are also differences. The basic version has a 4810 mAh battery but cannot be charged wirelessly. The Pro Edition not only can do it but also has a slightly larger battery - 4870 mAh. In addition, the "middle" model retains IP68 protection, while the usual Vivo X90 only gets IP64.

The cameras also represent a different level. Vivo X90 Pro can enjoy most of the functions of the Plus version, but the ultra-wide-angle camera no longer uses a 48 Mpix matrix, but a 12 Mpix one. In addition, the periscope lens was missing.

The base Vivo got a set of cameras 50 Mpix (IMX866) + 12 Mpix (ultra wide-angle, 108 ∘ ) + 12 Mpix (telephoto with double zoom).
