Coinbase Migrates From AWS to Google Cloud in New Partnership

Last October 11, Google announced a partnership with Coinbase, a crypto asset (virtual currency) business, at its annual event “Google Cloud Next”.

The partnership will allow Google Cloud customers to pay for services in cryptocurrency with Coinbase Commerce. The service is expected to be "available in the Web3 space" from early 2023. Coinbase Commerce is a transaction service for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, USD Coin, Tether USD, Dogecoin, and Shiba Inu.

Google also plans to adopt Coinbase Prime, a service for secure cryptocurrency transactions and storage.

It will also give Web3 developers access to Google's crypto-public dataset BigQuery, powered by Coinbase Cloud Nodes, across major blockchains. This makes it possible to operate Web3-based systems without expensive infrastructure.

As part of the deal, Coinbase will move some of its data-related apps from Amazon.com's AWS to Google Cloud.

“With over 100 million users and 14,500 institutional clients, Coinbase has spent over a decade building products powered by blockchain technology,” said Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong in a statement. "There is no better partner than Google Cloud to realize our vision of building trusted bridges to systems."
