Blizzard Reveals Diablo 4 Monetization Model & Season Operation Policy

Blizzard has revealed detailed plans for the monetization of Diablo IV, due out next year. Through a new notice that was recently released, Blizzard said that Diablo 4 will be sold as a 'Full Price' game, and will include a paid premium battle pass and cosmetic items at launch. It has been nailed down that there will be no 'pay-for-power' items that can enhance stats.

This was conscious of the fact that the F2P (free-to-play) mobile game 'Diablo Immortal', released in June, was heavily criticized as a profit model that allows smooth game progress only when character abilities are raised by purchasing items through micropayments. It is interpreted as an announcement.

Blizzard also recently announced that it will completely remove the loot box system from Overwatch 2, which is due out this October. Root box is also a revenue model that has long been criticized by both gamers and regulators for promoting speculation. Blizzard has announced that they are not planning to introduce a root box in Diablo 4 at all.

As announced, Diablo 4 players will be able to purchase cosmetic items and season pass through the in-game store, which are divided into free passes and paid premium passes. The free pass includes items such as XP boost, and the premium pass only includes cosmetic items and premium currency that can be used in the in-game store but does not include any items to improve combat power.

Diablo 4, like Diablo 3, operates on a seasonal basis, and Blizzard said it plans to offer up to four seasons per year. Not only will the game meta be different for each season, but also new content will be added, so you can enjoy a new quest line and a new story every season.

The American game media Polygon said that the approach to this season's operation plan, which adds new content every season, was significantly different from Diablo 3's season operation, which tried to give freshness through balance changes and gear readjustment. Blizzard, who first introduced the season model to Blizzard, tried to combine the operation method of more modern games such as 'Destiny 2' and 'Path of Exiles with the operation method maintained for nearly 10 years. evaluated as being presented.
